Teen Parenting Program
Calling all teen parents and expectant teen parents!
Huntington Public Library in collaboration with Town of Huntington Youth Bureau Sanctuary Project and the Dolan Family Health Center will be presenting parenting workshops at the Station Branch location on Mondays evenings, June 8, 15 & 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A variety of helpful and supportive topics will include:
Pre-natal Care, Childcare, Nutrition, Resources for HealthCare, Stress Management, Emotional Well-Being and much more.

Announcing Changes to the HOPE for Homeowners Program
On May 20, 2009, President Obama signed into law the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act. This act modifies the HOPE for Homeowners Program with the goal of helping additional families avoid mortgage foreclosure. It is anticipated that guidance related to these changes will be released within 30 days. The statutory changes to the program include:
• Additional compensation for primary and subordinate lien holders.
• Establishing incentive payments to servicers of loans refinanced under the HOPE for Homeowners Program, as well as originators of new HOPE for Homeowners mortgages.
• Reducing costs of the program to the consumer.

Additional 13 Weeks of Extended Unemployment Benefits
Legislation is pending for an additional 13 weeks of extended benefits. Therefore, if you have exhausted all your regular and emergency benefits, and are still unemployed, you should continue to claim weekly benefits in the usual manner. If the legislation is approved, you will receive payment for weeks claimed that are covered by the legislation. For updates, continue checking the NYS Department of Labor website.

Suffolk County Down Payment Assistance Program
Hopeful first-time home buyers in Suffolk may be eligible for as much as $1,400 in down payment assistance from Suffolk County through a $1 million dollar program that helps buyers clear that last hurdle towards home ownership. Eligibility is determined by the Suffolk County Community Development Office based upon family size and gross annual income. Applications will be mailed out starting in May and will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested in receiving an application can contact the Suffolk County Community Development Office at (631) 853-5705.
