Defensive Driving in Spanish


Representatives of Empire Safety Council present this class which qualifies motorists for a reduction in insurance premiums. Class size is limited.

Registration is required, beginning on Wednesday, September 1, with a check or money order made out to Empire Safety Council for $28.00. Open to all.

Backpacks for Back to School Drive


The Family Service League will hold its annual "Backpacks for Back to School" drive on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, supplying local underprivileged children with backpacks filled with school supplies.

This will take place at the Olsten Family Center on:

■Wednesday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
■Thursday, Aug. 26, 1:30 to 7:30 p.m.
■Friday, Aug. 27, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The backpacks are filled with school supplies for the up-coming school year and will be distributed to local low-income families struggling with financial hardship. All of the items were either donated or purchased with funding provided by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, New York Community Bank, Capital One Bank, National Grid, and many other corporations, civic and community groups, and individuals. More than 2,000 children will receive the school supplies they need to begin school prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

Stand Up For The Homeless Clothing & Donation Drive


The County Executive is pleased to announce a clothing and donation drive in preparation for the
3'd Annual "Stand Up for the Homeless" event to be held August 4, 2010. You are encouraged to donate gently used clothing for men, women, and children of all ages and sizes. All donations are
welcome and particular items of need include baby and toddler clothes, children's shoes, socks,
and clothing, as well as winter-appropriate garments for both adults and children.
For your convenience, clothing donation bins will be designated in the following four locations
(you may direct individual location inquiries to the contact listed below for each site):

1. H. Lee Dennison Building Plaza, 100 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge (contact:

2. Department of Social Services, Mary Gordon Building, 3085 Veterans Highway,
Ronkonkoma (contact: Linda O'Donohoe, 854-9748)
3. Department of Public Works Lobby, Building CIO, 393 Yaphank Avenue, Yaphank

4. Civil Service, North County Complex, Building 158, Hauppauge (contact: Judi White,

In addition to the clothing drive, items of need for the event include diapers, baby formula and
school supplies. If you would like to donate any of these items, please contact Jennifer Freeman

additional inquiries regarding donations (being accepted through the end of July) may also be
directed to Jennifer.
